Graduating high school seniors connect with employers at After the Tassel hiring fair
On Wednesday, April 30th, seniors from Valley, Butler, Doss, Iroquois, and PRP high schools in Louisville met with employers at Valley High School at the After the Tassel hiring fair. After the Tassel, which is supported by the state’s Putting Young Kentuckians to Work funding, was created to connect graduating high school seniors in the Louisville region who aren’t immediately attending college with full-time employment paying at least fifteen dollars an hour with benefits.
Twenty-two employers from a wide range of industries participated in the event, including GE Appliances, Ford Motor Company, Norton Healthcare, UofL Health, US Navy, Trilogy Health Services, Louisville Metro Government, PNC Bank, and others.
“We loved the kids being prepped and some had formal resumes to hand out. I’ve seen my fair share of career fairs where kids are lost and confused but these kids were prepped and ready to engage.”
“The engagement of the students was GREAT! I would rather talk to a handful of engaged students than hundreds of disengaged students.”
“I got more appointments and applicants today than every other career fair I have attended this year combined.”
The After the Tassel team prepared students in the weeks leading up to the hiring fair by helping them create or improve their resumes, explore careers they are interested in, and provide other job readiness support.
The event at Valley High School was the first in a series of custom After the Tassel hiring fairs this spring. The next hiring fair will be on May 8th for students at Fairdale, Georgia Chaffee TAPP, Liberty, Moore, Southern, and Waggener high schools in Louisville. On May 13th, After the Tassel is hosting a hiring fair in Shepherdsville, Kentucky for students at Bullitt Central High School, North Bullitt High School, Bullitt East High School.
