KentuckianaWorks now offering job and career help at the Stratton Community Center in Shelbyville

If you need help with finding a job or launching a career, you can now visit a new Shelbyville Kentucky Career Center office in the Stratton Community Center, 215 E. Washington St.  

At the new location, individuals can meet with a career specialist to talk about the job or career that might work best for them and even get referred to the training or education they need to qualify for the job. You can walk in for this help or make an appointment in advance.

The Kentucky Career Center in Shelbyville is open Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling (502) 489-2134.

The new location is in addition to flexible mobile career services available to residents of Shelby and surrounding counties. You can call and arrange to meet with a career specialist at a location near where you work or live. For Shelby County, the number to call is (502) 489-2134.

KentuckianaWorks is the Workforce Development Board for Bullitt, Henry, Jefferson, Oldham, Spencer, Shelby and Trimble counties and provides a network of Kentucky Career Centers, programs and services to help people find jobs, education and training. The agency works closely with employers to meet their workforce needs by linking them with skilled, qualified employees.

Last year, KentuckianaWorks placed more than 1,400 people in jobs at an average wage of more than $35,000, creating a yearly payroll of nearly $50 million.

Veterans are a priority customer in all KentuckianaWorks workforce programs and the agency  also partners with the state’s Office of Vocational Rehabilitation to provide career services to individuals with disabilities.

For those receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), KentuckianaWorks began a new partnership with the state this year to provide access to education, training and employment. SNAP E&T customers are able to request service in Shelby County for this program, by calling (502) 574-4038.

Services are also available in Shelby County for young people ages 18-24 who are not currently enrolled in school. The Kentucky Youth Career Center (KYCC) provides help through job training, career coaching, career exploration, mentoring and paid internships. They are located at 227A Alpine Dr., or call (502) 844-2119.

All adult and youth career services are available at no cost.

KentuckianaWorks uses the latest labor market data to help people understand what jobs are in demand, what they pay, and what education or certifications are required for those jobs. An online tool, the Career Calculator, provides real-time information to help students and job seekers plan for careers and chart the education they will need.
