Overview
This site contains forecasts of jobs by occupation in the Greater Louisville labor market area. For each occupation, the site contains information on jobs in 2006 and 2016, the top industries for employment, official job descriptions, average wage rates and fringe benefits, top skills and education required, links to associated occupations, and links to local education and training providers. Information is provided for the aggregate labor market, but also for the group of seven Indiana counties, Jefferson County, and each of the other eighteen Kentucky counties in the labor market.
The labor market is defined to include all the counties in three Workforce Investment Act regions - KIPDA, Lincoln Trail, and Seven Counties. The Kentucky counties include Adair, Breckinridge, Bullitt, Carroll, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Henry, Jefferson, Larue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, Taylor, Trimble, and Washington. The Indiana counties include Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Jefferson, Scott, and Washington.
The labor market information was developed for two prime audiences, though many other users will find this information helpful. The first audience includes the many education and training providers in the Louisville region. To plan curricula and manage their organizations, they need an objective, fresh, quantitative assessment of which occupations are expected to grow and which are expected to decline. The information will likely be most useful to postsecondary organizations, but high schools may also benefit.
The second prime audience includes the guidance and career counselors of the region's high schools, as they help teenagers think through their options and training needs. Counselors now have an online database on local occupations, their skill sets, likely rate of growth, pay levels, and benefits. Students, of course, can access this site directly to explore career options.
