About
the KentuckianaWorks Foundation
The KentuckianaWorks
Foundation was established in February 2005 to promote and assist,
whether financially or otherwise, the activities of
KentuckianaWorks, Greater Louisville’s Workforce Investment
Board. The goal of the
Foundation is to raise funds and coordinate efforts that encourage
Louisville
area residents to raise their educational attainment levels.
The Foundation raises money for and administers the Kentuckiana
College Access Center (KCAC), which helps middle and high school
students, as well as adults, learn about higher education
opportunities, apply to college and fill out financial aid forms.
Currently, a fundraising priority for the Foundation is the Youth
Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.) program located in the
Jefferson
Education
Center
. The Y.O.U. (Youth
Opportunities Unlimited) Center offers high school drop-outs
between the ages of 16 and 21 a fresh beginning.
Since the doors opened in August of 2005, the
Y.O.U.
Center
has positively affected the lives of hundreds of youth by giving
them a chance to earn their GED, make measurable learning gains,
get a job, and enter higher education.
In its first year of operation, the YOU Center produced
some impressive results:
-
Roughly 1000
young people came through the doors seeking services.
Of those, 69 obtained a GED, 174
made measurable learning gains, 230
obtained employment, 20
entered college, and 31
completed occupational training to get them into a career.
These statistics
demonstrate that the YOU Center is filling a huge void for this
community’s young people. In
all, youth are coming from 33 different zip codes to attend the
center. What
makes YOU different? The
youth have told us it’s the caring staff, welcoming culture, and
sense of community that keeps them coming back.
Why
we need YOU
As the demands for these
services increase, so too does the need for additional resources
to support them. We
all benefit from this program—the only one of its kind in our
city—in ways that will be seen in the short and long term.
Employers are getting skilled workers, more untapped young
people are realizing their potential, and Greater Louisville gains
more engaged, productive citizens.
All in all, the
Y.O.U.
Center
makes everyone’s quality of life better.
Whether you are a parent,
an employer—or you are simply concerned about the preparedness
of our young people as they create their futures—you can make a
difference.
Increase a young person’s chance for success by making a
contribution to Youth Opportunities Unlimited today.
A gift of just $350 helps one young person get his/her GED.
