Congratulations! You Got The Job!

Next Steps

We live in a world that is constantly changing.  You either learn to accept and control change or change may control you. In today’s job market, it is not uncommon for people to change jobs or even careers several times.  As you begin a new phase of your career, dedicate and commit yourself to this new position and make it a part of your overall career path.  To make the best of your new job and prepare for future opportunities, do the following:

  1. Send a letter to any and all people who assisted in your career transition. Tell them of your good fortune. This helps maintain your network.
  2. Keep your resume updated.
  3. Obtain or draw an organizational chart of the new company/organization. Understand where you fit in and consider where advancement possibilities may be.
  4. Commit yourself to continued learning.  Read, listen, take classes and attend seminars.
  5. Use your time wisely.  Work smart.
  6. Treat everyone like they are million dollar customers.
  7. Set realistic goals and follow through.
  8. Return all phone calls.
  9. Keep a journal of accomplishments.
  10. Work hard and maintain a positive attitude.  Approach every day like it is a new job interview.
